What is relaxed elegance? Is it being elegant in an understated way? Or is it dressing casually but with an extra touch?
Here’s my take on it…
Due to the Coronavirus, the trend that we’re seeing more and more is jogging or yoga pants and flip flops, and this is a style we’re slowly getting more and more used to wearing. So, when summer finally rolls around and Coronavirus is behind us, the danger is that we may not remember what our style used to be, or we may have lost the desire all together to make an effort to wear other clothes that aren’t so entrenched in the comfort zone.
This got me thinking about the idea of Relaxed Elegance. To me it’s a perfect blend of comfort and chic, that boosts your mood and helps you too feel stylish again.
To show you what I had in mind, here are some out-fit ideas that are focused on comfort, but then elevated with an extra touch in the form of a gorgeous piece of jewellery.
An elegant ankle skirt
Made from cotton or linen, this style is often better than jeans, as it’s comfortable and easy to wear and always adds that extra feminine allure. Pair it with a solid colour t-shirt, a shirt or a light sweater for an effortlessly relaxed elegance look.
Relaxed elegance for work calls
When you’re working from home and taking care of business, you still want to look smart but not overly dressy for your business calls.
Pairing a blouse with black pants gives you a comfortable but professional look. Now, I appreciate your bottom half isn’t usually visible on Zoom calls, but knowing that you’ve put a complete outfit together really helps to step you into a work mindset. Plus, you just never know if you might need to stand up during the call to deal with an emergency!
A great way to add a touch of elegance to this look is with a short pearl necklace (for the perfect length count 2 fingers above your cleavage – it should not be longer than that).
No to jumpsuits (even couture ones!) and yes to the elegance of a wrap dress
Diane Von Furstenberg, first created the wrap dress in 1974. This timeless dress has no buttons or zippers, and is fastened around the body by a belt made from the same fabric. It’s a perfect ‘at home’ dress because it’s super comfortable and cosy and easy to wear, and doesn’t hinder your movements at all – plus it’s easy to wash and iron (always a bonus!). If you’re heading out and about, pair it with flats or loafers and you’re good to go!
For that extra touch of relaxed elegance, pair this chic look with a pearl necklace. Or for a funkier style why not go for something like the white resin chunky necklace or light and comfy leather horn ones that are featured below.
The ever versatile bracelet
A bracelet is a great tried and trusted piece that never fails to lift a casual outfit up to a new chic level.
