If you are, then you’re the kind of woman I’ve been designing for since I first began my journey as a jewelry designer.
I’ve always been a bit of a globe-trotter. Living in different countries I was completely mesmerised by the traditional ways of dressing, and the unique designs and textiles that made each culture so special.
And what really got my heart racing was the spectrum of colours and the way the light was different in each country – beautiful hues dancing in the sunlight, mingling with the rain, and blanketed in snow. I was that child who craved individuality and couldn’t get enough of colours and loved mixing and matching the oddest combinations.
When my husband and I moved to Washington D.C. for his ambassadorial role, there were lots of events to attend. At these events I mingled with amazing women who were powerhouses in their fields. And guess what? I realised I had to up my game, not just with my wardrobe but also in making my mark with my own style.
That’s when the creativity started bubbling and I dived headfirst into jewelry-making. I couldn’t get enough! I went on a spree of giving vintage jewelry a new lease of life. I played around with stones, pearls, and chains, and before I knew it, I was creating unique statement pieces to wear at the events we attended. I also took some formal classes to really hone my skills.
What I came to realise as well is that handmade jewelry can be outrageously expensive to buy. I thought, “This can’t be right! Everyone deserves to feel fabulous without breaking the bank.”
Lightbulb moment! My passion for creating one-of-a-kind statement pieces at an affordable price needed to be shared, and that’s how RZ Jewelry was born. I set myself up a workshop in my home, and many sleepless nights later my first collection of necklaces, bracelets, and earrings was ready to launch.
What I love most about all my designs is that my travels are woven into each piece. The colours, shapes, and materials I work with are all influenced by the places and cultures I’ve adored.
